WHAT MAKES THE GREAT COMMISSION GREAT?

Matthew 28:18-20

I. It is great because of the One Who gave it.

A. Jesus has all authority.

B. All authorities are subject to Him (1 Pet. 3:22).

2. 1 Timothy 6:15

C. Practicing the Great Commission makes us more like

Christ (Lk. 19:10).

II. It is great because of those to whom it was given.

A. Originally, this commission was spoken to eleven men.

B. However, in teaching others all that Jesus taught them

those eleven men would teach the Great Commission to

others as well.

C. Considering to whom this commission was spoken

emphasizes the Lord’s trust in the method of preaching

(1 Cor. 1:21-23; 2:2).

III. It is great because of its extent.

A. No one is to be left out.

B. Unlike the limited commission which only focused on the

Jewish nation (Matt. 10:5, 6), the Great Commission

knows no bounds.

IV. It is great because of its purpose.

A. The Lord desires souls to be saved (2 Pet. 3:9).

B. The Great Commission produces stronger Christians

(consider Hebrews 5:12).
