Proverbs 22:1

I. The Importance Of A Good Name

A. Paul’s impression of a good name

1. 1 Timothy 3:7

B. We should be concerned about what others think of us but

not overly so.

1. To be overly concerned about others’ impression of us is

pharisaical (Matt. 23:5-7).

2. To be overly concerned about what others think of us is

akin to being self-centered.

a. Teenagers fall victim to this at times.

b. We must accept that everyone will not like us (see

Luke 6:26).

C. A good name enables us to have a good influence upon

others and the opposite is certainly true.

II. Establishing A Good Name

A. Live with integrity (Prov. 11:3; 1 Peter. 3:1 ff).

B. Don’t participate in activities that cause God’s name to be

trampled upon.

1. Romans 2:23, 24

2. If God and Christian values are not welcomed at a place,

then Christians should not be there.

C. Do good (Prov. 20:11).
