HOLY VERSES UNCLEAN

Haggai 2:10-19

  I.  The Difference

       A.  There is a clear difference between the holy and the

             unclean.

             1.  Read Leviticus 10:10.

             2.  Holy is defined as “pure” with a derived meaning of

                  being separated.

       B.  God’s people were, and still are, required to “discern

between the unclean and the clean” (Eze. 44:23).

       C.  At Israel’s lowest point, not even the priests honored the

difference between the holy and the unclean (Eze. 22:26).

       D.  How do we live out the difference between holiness and

            uncleanness?

II.  The Dilemma (vv. 12, 13)

       A.  Simply coming in contact with holy items will not make

             one holy!

              1.  Today many have the idea that simply attending the

worship service or taking the Lord’s Supper will make

                   them right in God’s sight.

              2.  Far too many think that simply owning a Bible will

                   make one spiritual.

       B.  While simply contacting the holy will not make one holy,

contacting the unholy can make one unholy.

             1.  Contact with unclean animals or objects (as designated

by the Old Law) literally made one legally unclean.

             2.  Such contact with the unclean can be just as defiling.

                  a.  2 Corinthians 6:17

                  b.  Romans 12:1, 2

III.  The Deliverance

       A.  Old Testament deliverance came from the blood of animals

             (Num. 6:24-30).

       B.  Our deliverance is made possible through the blood of

             Christ (Jn. 1:29; 1 Pet. 1:18, 19).
