WHAT THE RICH YOUNG RULER DID RIGHT
Mk. 10:17-22
I. He came in the right way--running (v. 17).
A. Today, too many people spend their efforts running away
from Jesus and what He teaches.
1. People run away from the teachings of Colossians 3:17
and John 14:6.
2. People left the Lord before (Jn. 6:66-68).
B. One wonders when this rich young ruler made the decision
to run to Jesus.
1. This does not seem like a spur of the moment decision.
2. Did he understand the truth of James 4:14?
II. He came with the right attitude--kneeling worshipfully
(v.17).
A. We must approach God with proper respect.
1. Exodus 3:5
2. Exodus 19:12, 14
3. Hebrews 12:29
4. Hebrews 10:31
B. How do you approach the Lord?
III. He came to the right person--Jesus (v.18).
A. Jesus is our only answer (Acts 4:11, 12).
B. There were, no doubt, many religious leaders to whom the
rich young ruler could have gone.
IV. He received the right answer (v. 21).
A. Jesus demands sacrifice (v. 22).
B. The rich young ruler wanted salvation on his terms.
Conclusion
1. This account does not have a happy ending.
2. This young man came to Jesus for the right reason--to be
saved--but he was unwilling to do what Jesus told him to do.
3. Are you willing to obey the Lord?
