Sunday’s Sermon Sketches

February 2, 2003 (p.m.)

PSALM 2

  I.  Man’s Rebellion

       A.  The heathen raged (v. 1).

       B.  Evil men seldom get better (2 Tim. 3:13;

             Jer. 13:23).

       C.  The later part of verse one is reminiscent of

             Genesis 6:5.

             1.  God searches all hearts (1 Chron. 28:9) with His

                  piercing Word (Heb. 4:12, 13).

             2.  Consider 1 Timothy 1:4; 4:7 as another

                  application of imagining vain things.

       D.  There is danger when the so-called “wisdom” (v. 2)

             of the world is pooled (Gen. 11:1, 3; 2 Chron.

             10:8-16).

 II.  God’s Response

       A.  God laughs at the pitiful attempts of wicked men to

             thwart Him (v. 4; Prov. 21:30).

       B.  Consider Gamaliel’s orders (Acts 5:34-39).

       C.  1 Peter 3:15

III.  Christ’s Rule

       A.  This Psalm is unquestionably Messianic (Acts

             13:33), foretelling of Christ’s reign.

       B.  Christ’s reign spells doom for the wicked (v. 9).

IV.  Inspiration’s Reminder

       A.  The conclusion is a reminder to be wise.

       B.  Wisdom begins with God (Psa.111:10; Prov. 1:7;

              9:10; 15:33).
