Seven
Truths About The Word Of God From
1
Peter 1:22-25
I. The
Word of God is “the truth.”
A.
That which is called the Word of God in verse 23 is identified as the
truth
in verse 22.
1.
John 17:17 further teaches that God’s Word is the truth.
2.
This evidence forever settles the question, “What is truth?”
(John 18:38).
B.
Truth is not subjective (John 14:6).
II.
God’s Word can be obeyed.
A.
Those to whom Peter wrote had already obeyed this Word (v. 22).
B.
God commands us to obey this Word, and He will only save those who
do obey (2 Thessalonians 1:6-9).
III.
Obeying God’s Word purifies the soul.
A.
The song God Bless America contains this plea, “Stand beside her
and
guide her thru the night with a light from above.”
B.
See the article below to be even more convinced that America needs to
be purified.
IV.
God’s Word in incorruptible.
A.
The Bible does not “brainwash” its readers; it frees its followers
(John 8:32).
B.
Claims against God, His work, His people fall at the abundance of
evidence found on the Bible’s
pages.
V.
By God’s Word, one is born again.
A.
When reborn into God’s family, we enjoy fellowship with our Savior and
all the saints (1 John
1:7-9). The world is left behind (2
Corinthians
6:17).
B.
This new birth is man’s only hope to be saved (John 3:3-8).
VI. The
Word of God lives, abides, and endures forever.
A.
Unlike anything of this earth (2 Peter 3:9, 10), God’s Word lasts
forever.
B.
Thomas Paine (author of The Age of Reason, called the atheists’
bible)
boasted the demise of the
Bible. Ironically Paine’s own printing
press
was used to print Bibles and
biblical materials. Robert Ingersoll, an
American agnostic, once promised
to send the Bible to the “morgue.”
After Ingersoll’s own death, a man
by the name of Robert Garry sat and
wrote Bible lessons at the very
desk at which Ingersoll worked to
discredit the Bible.
VII. The Gospel is the Word of God.
A.
The Gospel is still God’s power to save man (Romans 1:16).
B.
This Gospel must be preached (v. 25).

Is There A Connection?
A George Gallop poll revealed
how uninformed our citizenry is of the Bible.
§
Less than 50% of
adult Americans knew that Genesis was the first book of the Bible.
§
On an average,
American teenagers can name only about three or four of the Ten Commandments of
the Old Testament.
§
Over 75% of the
adults asked were unable to name a single prophet of the Old Testament.
§
Only 34% among
adults knew who preached the “Sermon on the Mount.”
§
Only 35% knew
that the Roman Empire ruled Palestine during the time of Jesus.
§
Only three adults
out of ten could name the four accounts of the life of Christ.
In a typical day in this
country:
§
2,556 babies are
born to teenagers out of wedlock.
§
Six teenagers
commit suicide.
§
135,000 children
bring guns to school.
§
Forty children
die from guns.
§
3,200 children
run away from home.
§
211 are arrested
from drug abuse.
§
437 are arrested
for drinking and driving.
§
7,742 teenagers
will become sexually active.
§
2,795 will become
pregnant.
§
1,106 will have
abortions.
Let’s let the Word of Christ
dwell in us richly (Col. 3;16).
